Whilst Exeter’s football team has never really set the world alight, they did grab 5-minutes of fame when Michael Jackson and David Blaine joined their pal Uri Geller at a match in 2003! Elsewhere in the city, rugby is particularly popular, and the well-regarded university has a good reputation throughout the country for having considerable sporting prowess. All this, combined with a location and facilities that allow virtually any type of sport to be played, ensures that the city is home to many specialist Exeter sports shops that cater for all interests.
With the River Exe running through the heart of the city, coastal towns like Exmouth and Dawlish less than 15-miles away, and Dartmoor practically on the doorstep, there are plenty of sports shops in Exeter that cater for water and outdoor activities. Shops such as AS Watersports and John Bridger Marine are ideally placed to take advantage of this location. Traditionally, Fore Street has always catered particularly well for this market – although travel just a little bit outside the main shopping hub and you will find some excellent little Exeter sports shops such as Ironbridge Runner and Richard’s Bikes.
